What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis was first used in 1875 for hair removal and is the only safe method of permanent hair removal. In electrolysis, a fine needle wire (probe or filament) is inserted into the hair follicle opening in the skin surface, and an electric current is  passed down the needle, destroying the hair root. The loosened hair may then be removed with forceps (tweezers).

goal of electrolysis

The goal of electrolysis is to destroy the hair root (the germinative growing cells of the hair follicle) in order that the hair does not grow back. The electrolysis energy delivered must be sufficient to destroy the hair root below the skin, but the destructive energy must not reach the surface of the skin where it could produce unwanted skin surface damage.

Depending on how your hair grows, the best time to schedule your electrolysis appointment is

In order to get the best results from electrolysis, the hair needs to be in the Anagen stage because that is when the dermal papilla needs to be destroyed. Which calls for shaving the treatment area four to six days in advance of your appointment for treatment. Shaving does not promote or stimulate the growth of new hair; rather, it enables the epilation of hair from the skin-surface. Epilating hairs at the proper stage of their growth will allow the treatment energy to destroy the hair root. This process is therefore not immediate and may take some time, but electrolysis does work and the results are permanent.

It’s good to know

FDA-Approved Permanence

Electrolysis is the only method recognized by the FDA on permanent hair removal.

Electrolysis for Everyone

Electrolysis is suitable for all areas of the body, ages and genders.

All Hair and Skin Types

Electrolysis is suitable for every hair and skin colour or type.

Texture Diversity

Electrolysis works on hair textures..coarse, medium, fine, very coarse.

Inclusive Effectiveness

Electrolysis works regardless of your hair type or color and for men, women and everyone in between.

HOW DOES HAIR GROW?

HOW DOES HAIR GROW?

There are three phases in the hair growth cycle:
Anagen

Growth phase. During this phase, the follicle actively grows hair. It lasts 2 to 8 years.

Catagen

Degeneration phase. During this phase, the follicle is almost entirely degraded. It lasts 2 to 4 weeks.

Telogen

Resting phase. During this phase, the follicle rests prior to re-initiation of an anagen phase and the growth of a new hair shaft. It lasts 2 to 4 months.
